Mobile Home Monday -

This was actually posted for the first time last year.  It got a great amount of hits so I'm assuming you guys liked it?... thus I'm bringing it back.  Ok, truth be told yesterday was mother's day, we were out of the house all day and I didn't get a chance to post a new Mobile Home Monday so I'm re-posting.
I hope all the Moms, sisters, friends, aunts, caregivers, god moms, etc... had a fantastic mother's day!

New Listings for April 5th!

It's been a busy, but great, week (more on why it's been so busy in another post). Because of this only one new jewelry box has been listed in HDV this week. The good news, it's a really adorable jewelry box.  The colors are subtle yet cheery and fun.  The inside reveals a ton of storage space. Check it out for yourself...

The Sophia

My daughter is six years old and fortunate enough to have many amazing little girlfriends. There have been a lot of birthday parties in the past couple months. Lucky for me these girls love getting custom jewelry boxes and have even come to expect it from my daughter.
This particular jewelry box was for a very special little girl named Sophia. Sophia has an extremely kind and loving heart. Sophia is a fashionista, a decorator and a hostess extraordinaire. Because of her amazing sense of style, I knew Sophia would appreciate the opportunity to help design her jewelery box.
I provided Sophia with a array of paper samples. She narrowed the pile down to her 5 favorites....from there I went ahead and created "The Sophia".
Below is a picture of Sophia opening her gift while the rest of the girls gather around. I was told she loved her gift. Words cannot express how happy this makes me.

Saturday - Behind the Scenes of HDV

It's been another busy week here at HDV....
Last Saturday the kids and I took my mom out for lunch, in honor of Mother's Day.  We gave her a large jewelry box I made especially for her. She loved it.
On Sunday my handsome husband brought me breakfast in bed, tulips, a new wallet (cause I am always loosing things in my very large and over-sized purse) and best of all he gave me a brand new sander. He bought this particular sander because it has different attachments making it easier for me to sand down different jewelry boxes. I love him for thinking of that. Here's me with my new sander..
This past week I have been busy fixing, sanding, priming and painting vintage jewelry boxes.  Here are a few before and afters...

Upcycled Thursdays -Button Down Shirts

My husband recently noticed a hole in the arm of one of his favorite button down work shirts.  It's a great shirt and I hate to see him toss it, leave it, so I pull up quick to retrieve it...
Here are a few great ideas on what I could do with his discarded button down shirts:

Work it Wed - To remove or Not to Remove?

My pilates instructor recently asked me to sell an amazing, and tarnished, silver set which includes a tray, pitcher, and much more. My plan for today's blog post was to do a tutorial on how to properly polish silver. However, as I researched the process I found many pictures of silver both tarnished and polished. As I paged through the pictures I realized I love the look of tarnished silver. It's beautiful in it's own way.
So for today's blog post has changed directions and I'm going to show a few pictures of lovely tarnished silver.  But, if you want to know how to polish silver check out Martha Stewart.

Upcycled Thursdays - Chairs

When I see an unloved vintage chair my first thought is to strip, prime and paint giving it a second life as a....well, chair. But now I have a whole new outlook on the possibles behind a single chair.

Mobile Home Monday - An Amazing Airstream

Wow! This is amazing. I found this spectacular airstream renovation via Re-Nest
Re-Nest writes:
Matthew Hofman, founder of Hofmann Architecture, put his skills to work in remodeling a 1978 25-foot Airstream. The 158 sq. ft. trailer is now his office/home, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors.

I love this idea! It's been on my "to do" list for sometime now. Someday I'll get around to it but for now I'll share the photos that bring me inspiration...

Work it Wed - Blending

Look what interesting tid bit of information I found...
Did you know that many, if not most, blenders can be used with a standard mason jar, or wide-mouthed mason jar? This is a trick my mother taught me. Apparently 40 years ago or so, about the time this blender pictured was bought, manufacturers used to include a mason jar in the box with the blender...(see Simply Recipes Blog for the entire post)

The Simply Recipes blog recommends using this method for grounding spices, whipped cream or peanut butter.  That's all well and good but I'm thinking this would be perfect for making a yummy Margarita and then just drinking right out of the jar. Please tell me someone else was thinking the same thing ?
For a more in depth "how to" description check out the Simply Recipes blog post.

Work it Wed - A Perfect Table and Perfect Manners

Yesterday's blog post gave some ideas (hopefully) on setting a vintage inspired table for Easter or your next spring gathering. Today I'll take things a couple steps further...

How to set a good table:
I love this diagram taken from All the Mountains Blog.  Unfortunately the writing is light and difficult to see. I think I enlarged the imagine enough for the words to be legible?
  Table Etiquette:
Who doesn't love a great vintage video reminder on how to have good table manners?
