Mobile Home Monday- Bright, Cheery and Ready for Summer Sun

I adore the bright colors of this refurbished vintage camper. It's so bright, cheery and inviting.  I also love the map wall (bottom photo). What a great idea... it's the perfect way to highlight the big travels of a little 'ol camper.

Kiara's Jewelry Box

I am ALWAYS on the hunt for good vintage jewelry boxes to refurbish.  On my way home one afternoon I stopped at a "treasure store" and found this beauty perched on top a shelf. I immediately posted and tweeted this exact picture.
Within a matter of minutes I had a lovely woman from TN contact me via Facebook.  Her name was Keisha. Keisha saw the jewelry box and knew it would be perfect for her daughters newly decorated bedroom.
And then the fun began....
Keisha sent me a picture of her daughters bedroom (see pic below) to give me an idea of what she's looking for.
Is this not the coolest room for a 5 year old? I absolutely LOVE it! As much as this room inspired me it also frightened me a little. It's obvious Keisha is a perfectionist and has a great eye. The pressure was on.  I asked Keisha to tell me a little bit about her daughter. I explained knowing a bit about who I'm creating the jewelry box for sparks my creativity.  Keisha was more than happy to tell me all about her  adorable daughter (see pic below)
"My daughter is 5 and loves jewelry and jewelry boxes...She got her first jewelry box for Christmas and it was a hello kitty jewelry box.....This will be her first big girl room shes so tiny (34 lbs) that she still sleeps in her toddler bed in our room...so she is beyond excited to get her own room.....Her name is Kiara and she is a firery true red head lol"

Ok, really, seriously, this girl could not be any more adorable! A sweet yet sassy little face on a tiny little body... this is my kind of girl!

A few more emails went back and forth between Keisha and myself. After I felt I had a good handle on her style, color choices, and overall vision... I went accent paper shopping.
Below is the pic I sent to Keisha.

I asked Keisha to pick her top three papers.  Here is Keisha's response to my request:
"I like 2,5,9,10,11,&12 any of those are good! I know you said 3 but this will give you more options to play with! "
(side note: as you'll see below - I ended up using 2, 9, 10 and 11)

After that response I knew Keisha was the kind of customer who would let me create and do what I do best. I could hardly wait to get started on her daughters jewelry box.
Here is the finished product:
I love the color pink. It's bright, cheery and girlie. Pink is everything I envision Kiara to be. However, I want this jewelry box to grow with Kiara. I want it to be elegant and timeless with sparks of fun. Therefore I went with an overall white jewelry box. But before I painted it white, I painted it a really bright pink. The result was a white jewelry box with the perfect pink peeking through.

You'll notice the door is inter-changeable. Again, this will give Kiara more options should she ever feel like switching it up.  I couldn't resist putting the "Love" across the front. Why?  After chatting with Keisha, it was obvious to me she loved and adored her daughter.  The "Love" across the door is meant to remind Kiara her mothers love is never ending.

I sent Keisha pictures of the finished product and she wrote back saying,
"I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I like the black and white door the best....I can not wait to add it to her room! I want you to know I am so so so in LOVE with this! Thank you! I can not wait to get it!"

I could not have asked for a better response.
So that's it. Kiara's jewelry box is finished and it has been mailed out.  I cannot wait to hear from Keisha when she receives her jewelry box.

I leave you with one last look at a before and after:

A new use for something old

Isn't it fantastic when something old is used in a whole new and improved way?  Especially when that something is as gorgeous as a vintage china cabinet. Pair that with shoes and Holy Hannah!, you have the perfect union.
This photo is functional art and I am loving it.

Here are a few other options which would also make magnificent shoe cabinets/dressers/unconventional closets

New Listings for April 5th!

It's been a busy, but great, week (more on why it's been so busy in another post). Because of this only one new jewelry box has been listed in HDV this week. The good news, it's a really adorable jewelry box.  The colors are subtle yet cheery and fun.  The inside reveals a ton of storage space. Check it out for yourself...

Handkerchief

A few weeks ago I had dinner with some friends. Part way though the night my good friend, Erin pulls out small neatly wrapped packages for each of us. Erin goes on to explain when she lost her Dad (about one year ago) a older woman gave Erin a vintage hanky to dry her tears. Erin found great comfort in that hanky and found herself holding it at times she felt sad, alone or in need of comfort.

The other girls and I opened our gift and found a vintage hanky similar to the one Erin was given in her time of need. Erin said, "If you ever feel sad please hold this hanky and know you are loved."

May you find comfort in knowing a friend loves you.

Thank you, Erin for being a great friend to me and so many others.
