Murphy Has Arrived

There he is! Murphy, the Great Great Dane and the inspiration behind the Happy Day Vintage Great Great Dane Sale.
Let me back up - for those of you who are not regulars to this blog or the Happy Day Vintage shop (shame on you!), my husband and I recently decided to add a dog to our family. We choose a Great Dane. In order to get ready for his arrival (in other words clear out inventory from my house to make more room for a large dog) Happy Day Vintage had a Great Great Dane Sale.
The Happy Day Vintage fans/followers/customers have been amazing. I have enjoyed reading every ones emails, convos, comments, etc... sending us good thoughts with taking on a new pup. I've said it before and I'll say it again... HDV has THE BEST customers!!!!
In honor of Murphy I have quickly put together a blog featuring some great dog finds on Etsy. All are recycled/up-cycled or vintage. Gotta love being eco friendly.

Dog Chow Recycled Tote Bag $29.00 from One Woman Studio

XL Unique Tough Dog Bed Cover made From Duck Canvas $43.00 from Bow Wow Beds

As for the Great Great Dane Sale. It was suppose to end as of last Monday. However, having a new puppy and two kids has kept me away from my computer. I have changed a few listings to remove the sale tag but I have not had to time to tend to the majority. If you get to them before I do, then you get the sale price!

A Few of My Favorite Upcycled Things

Upcycling. According to Wikipedia it's the process of converting (what some might think are) waste or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or greater value. In other words, a vintage lover's dream. I LOVE seeing what some people might think of as "junk" turned into something that is useful and lovely and looking new. Here are some of my favorite examples of upcycling that I've recently found...

What an adorable sweater. Lizzybrookes has taken a plain black cardigan and embellished it with this fantastic ivory vintage lace and vintage buttons. Lovely!! This one is $38.00. Check out her shop. She has some other really great pieces.

This adorable little coin purse has been made out of a vintage tie, $25.00. CCStar also has other great upcycled pieces, including cute snap bracelets made from vintage ties.

How cute is this little suitcase? I immediately thought of my daughter and how perfect this would be for a little travel case for her. Rachel at GetReadySetGo has all kinds of upcycled luggage with her unique personal touches. Check them out. This one is $59.95.

So I think I just found my new favorite Etsy store. I am in love with whichgoose. She makes these amazing hair pieces out of vintage dresses, combs, etc. I love them! This one is amazing. Made out of a vintage dress, $35.00. Makes me want to get married all over again...or at least have some sort of occasion where I can wear one of these amazing pieces!

And last but not least, in honor of Dana and her new puppy Murphy... This great elevated dog feeder, $50.00 by juliacuster, made from a vintage wooden crate. This one just happens to have "Murphy" right on it. Dana is off to go pick up their puppy this weekend! We can't wait to meet him!

So there you go. Some fabulous upcycled finds. Thank you for reading my favorite things and have a Happy Day!

Fashion Friday with Etsy - The Domestic Diva

I recently purchased two aprons on Etsy. One from Annas Aprons and the other from Dianne Designer Aprons. I love them both and highly recommend both shops.
I tie on an apron as though it's some sort of superhero cape expecting it to suddenly make me feel like a domestic diva. I imagine myself tossing together a pot roast, ironing the laundry and leaving a path of perfection behind me. Of course I do it all wearing a beautiful dress with matching high heels while my children nicely (and more important quietly) play a game on the living room floor.
I'm sure you know how this fantasy ends...It has not even come close to coming true. However the aprons do, at the very least, dress up my usual "mom uniform" which consists of jeans and a t-shirt. Truth be told the aprons have helped me embrace my domestic side. By no means am I a domestic diva but if an apron makes me excited to make dinner then I consider it money well spent.

THE HALF APRON:
First things first...if this apron comes with two hunky men to tie it on me then sign me up! You can find this sweet vintage inspired half apron at Boojiboo for $18.75.

The full apron:
The full apron with detailed top and feminine full skirt will have you singing in perfect pitch as you simmer up a stew for a hearty feast. Find this retro 50's hot pink and damask full skirt apron at Lover Dover's Clothing for $32.00

There are SO MANY great apron shops on Etsy. I have to mention just a couple more of my favorites:

These fancy aprons above are from Sassy Apron. Sassy Apron has over 125 available aprons each one more adorable then the last.

The adorable aprons shown above are from Snappy Shop. I love the unique and quirkiness of the aprons. BUT.... even better then the aprons and the adorable kitchen in the background are some of the pictures on Snappy Shop:

With that I'll wrap up this blog post.

A Few of My Favorite Things to Get Organized

Oh yes, I want to be one of those people. One of those who has their life in complete order. Everything perfectly in it's place. Labeled. Put away. Neat. Even if it's hidden. Okay, I may be dreaming, but I'm working on it. I've been in a cleaning and organizing mood lately. Oh it feels so great to go through cabinets, drawers, and closets and get rid of stuff. The key for me, though, is KEEPING it that way. Hence this blog post. Now that I've cleaned it all out I need some ways to keep it all in it's place and keep it organized.

I'm especially drawn to the vintage industrial "wire" look. Here are a few of my favorites that can hopefully help fill my organizational dreams...

.
LOVE love LOVE these locker baskets by oldcrowfarm. They would be prefect in my mud room to organize my family's hats and mittens, school stuff, and work things. $32.00 a piece. I LOVE them!

I've never seen a pink basket like this one. Isn't it cute? This pink wire basket is by alittlevintageshop and costs only $7.00. I would love this for my daughter's room to hold her artwork from preschool, toys, or maybe even (if I was ever THIS organized) place her clothes that we pick out the night before for school. If only!

This metal bottle crate by cottagefarm is fantastic. $26.00. I would love this in my laundry room to hold detergent and ironing supplies. (Who am I kidding? I hardly ever iron. But my iron would still look great in this, don't you think?)

And finally, this wall letter organizer, $17.00, by JarganJamber. If your house is anything like mine there are always bills, letters, school papers, magazines, etc lying about. Keep them organized and in their place with this clever little number.

Just a few ideas for some great organizational helpers. And believe me, I need all the help I can get.

Thanks for reading about some of my favorite things. And don't forget about the Great Great Dane SALE going on right now! See below for more details!

Fashion Friday with Etsy... Sarah Jessica Parker

This past week I've been preoccupied with cleaning up after the holidays and preparing for the arrival of our new addition (see blog post from Jan 6th titled "The Great Great Dane Sale"). My mind was blank and I couldn't come up with a Fashion Friday Icon. Thankfully a great friend of mine came to my rescue and sent me this inspiration photo of Sarah Jessica Parker:
Don't you love it? The vintage swing coat and that hot pink purse against the all black back drop...marvelous! How does she look so casual and "undone" yet so fabulous all at the same time? Let's not worry about how she does it let's focus on recreating it - and at a fraction of the cost of what Mrs. Parker paid.
Upper Left: Black Riding Boots from Savage Spider for $55.00. These boots are great, the really set up the whole outfit. Comfortable yet warm. Upper Middle: Black Leather Gloves from RockabillyCoutoure for $50.00. Keep those perfectly manicured hands out of the cold by covering 'em with these lovely lady fingers. Upper Right: Vintage Alpine Ski Glasses from Do Not Destroy for $32.00. You won't find anyone else wearing these beauties. They're original and a little "out there" which is why I love them. Dare to be different. Lower Left: The HOT HOT HOT Pink Purse from Hoaken/Helga for $85.00. This purse, along with the coat, is obviously the key to the entire outfit. Don't be shy - this pretty purse is made to be seen. Against the black outfit the purse will shine, and it will be fantastic. Lower Middle: Ear muffs from Little K'reation for $18.00. I found plenty of all black ear muffs on Etsy and I liked them all. However, I fell in love with with these stripped muffs with the pink accent button. I'm sure Mrs. Parker would have added these to her collection had she only known they existed. Lower Right: Black Vintage Coat from Lipstick Whiskey for $425.00. This coat has it all...the lovely waistline, large buttons and best of all the full skirt. I love it! I only wish I could get a bigger picture of the coat. It's so vintage and so Hollywood.

THE GREAT GREAT DANE SALE

A MASSIVELY HUGE SALE!

WHY?
After months of research my husband and I have decided to expand our family. We are adopting a Great Dane, otherwise known as the "gentle giant" or "world's largest lap dog".
Our family (my husband, two kids and myself) will make a trip to Illinois the first week of February to pick up our puppy, Murphy. We are all very excited for Murphy's (shown here at 3 weeks old) arrival.

In order to prepare for the puppy I have been busy reorganizing our home. The next room to organize is my Happy Day Vintage studio. In order to make room for a dog, who will someday reach 150-200 lbs, I am clearing out inventory.
Hence, a HUGE (almost as huge as Murphy will be)SALE!

A Few of My Favorite Cozy Things

So we live in Minnesota. It's January. And it's cold. As I write this post it is 9 degrees below zero. That's right folks. That's bitter cold. And really that's actually pretty good. It was 25 degrees below zero over the weekend. This gets me thinking about cozy things. Curling up in a blanket with a cup of coffee, reading a book, wearing a comfy sweater...makes the cold bearable. Call me crazy but it makes the cold wonderful. Here are a few of my favorite cozy things...

Classic books, perfect for a cold winter's day. Turn on the fireplace, curl up in a blanket, and get lost in one of these gems. $14.00 by AttysVintage.

Love these mugs, complete with a creamer and sugar dish. Brew a nice hot cup and let that warm coffee soothe your soul. $28.00 by findingfabulous.

Absolutely adore this sweater cape. I want to snuggle up in this. Don't you? &74.99 by persephonevintage.

And...if you dare go out in that cold, please wear these boots. Fur lined and fabulous, they will keep your tootsies toasty. $62.00 by 20twentyvintage.

Stay warm and cozy, and thank you for reading my favorite things and the HDV blog!
