2012 Handmade Market

This post is long overdue.  Last October I did my first ever craft show.  This one was in a small MN town at a Catholic Elementary School.  I didn't know what to expect since, like I said, I had never done a craft show in the past.  Let me just say... I had THE best time!

The show itself was so well organized but the highlight was speaking with and meeting my customers.

Here are a few pictures from The Handmade Market of 2012.

I can't wait for next years show.

Happy First Day of Spring!, Let's Celebrate!!!

Happy first day of spring! If you live in a climate such as I do (Minnesota), spring cannot come soon enough.  To kick start spring I announce the return of my most popular post series, "Mobile Home Monday".

Remodeling a vintage mobile home/trailer has long been a desire of mine. Truth be told I would absolutely love to be a vintage trailer flipper.  From what I know there is no such thing as a vintage camper flipper and I would like to be the first.  Consider these Mobile Home Monday posts research for my one day dream profession.

Obviously today is not monday.  Therefore we will begin spring with a recap of my favorite Mobile Home Monday posts from 2012.

From my blog post on May 21st :

From my blog post on April 16th:

Stop back on Monday when I will have a brand new post highlighting a newly remodeled vintage mobile home. I look forward to seeing you.

One of my most often asked questions

On a weekly basis I get convos or emails from people asking similar questions. I figure since so many people ask, you may be wondering the same thing?

A CONVO/QUESTION FROM ELLEN
 Hi Dana,
I came across your blog.... TOO CUTE!!! I wondered if you could please help me...
What kind of paint do you use on the jewerly boxes? Also, is that paper, wall paper or adhesive on the sides? Finally, do you put your own velvet in on the inside?Thank you soooooooooooooooo much!
Ellen

MY RESPONSE
Thank you for reaching out and thank you for the compliments on my blog. Truth be told I need to get a lot better at updating my blog more often.

What kind of paint do you use?
I normally use spray paint. I sand down, prime and then paint each jewelry box.

Is that paper?
Yes, I use a thicker craft paper or like scrap book paper. The trick is to make sure it's thick enough so the lays nicely without bubbling on the jewelry box. I do use wall paper when I can find good prints.

Adhesive:
I have tried all kinds of adhesive. It truly depends on the jewelry box finish. I most often use a mix of glue, water and flour that I create myself. It seems to work best.

Do you put your own velvet on the inside?
On occasion I do refurbish the inside of jewelry boxes if the velvet is dirty. If the inside is in good condition I leave the inside as is.

I hope this helps? Thanks you for writing. Have a Happy Day!
Dana Douglas
