I hate good byes....

Every once in awhile I purchase something for my Happy Day Vintage shop which I simply cannot give up. Here are a few of those items:

I don't normally gravitate toward the antique treasures (I prefer retro/mod/vintage) but I couldn't live without this window and it's matching counterpart. These two windows flank either side of our fireplace. I don't know where they came from but it's fun coming up with outrageous stories on their original location. They make for a fun conversation starter.
This lamp is cork and crazy... I love it. Obviously the material drew me to it but I fell in love with the sexy, curvy shape. It sits on the end table (below) next to our couch.

The end table above started out a dark brown, faux wood color. I painted it black (although I need to do one or two more coats) and put it next to our couch. I love functional art.

I just purchased this fantastic office chair. Obviously, it sits in our office. I giggle every time I look at it because it reminds me of the movie "Anchorman".

This is the first item I ever kept for myself, vs putting it for sale in the Happy Day Vintage Shop. Much like the lamp above, I love the curvy shape. I also like the bright white color. It adds a pop of interest in our dark orange office.

Fashion Friday with Etsy, Mad Men

I am in love with the outfits on Mad Men. This week I felt the need to do a blog post featuring Joan as our fashion icon.

The show is set in the early 60's. The 60's were a transitional period in women's fashion. The hemlines are becoming shorter as opposed to the earlier fifties style of a circle skirt that has more of a flat front and that is longer and fuller. By 1960, there's a gathering at the waist and the hem length has come up a lot. Joan, the vixen of the show, is more fashion forward wearing clothing that's fitted showing the silhouette of her body.

I picked out a few items that would fit the form fitting, silhouette showing, curve hugging, head turning style that Joan wears so well:

Upper Right:French Blue Angora Sweater $34.00
Lower Right: Joan
Outfit Total: $131.00

How to make Vintage work with your current closet

Adding a vintage piece to your wardrobe creates endless and unique outfit potential. A vintage dress, like the one shown on the left, is so versatile. It looks fabulous alone and it looks insanely fab mixed with a few basic pieces.
I took a white shirt, a pair of jeans, and a black jacket (three items most people have in their closet) and created a few different looks. It's amazing how one dress can work for so many occasions with just a few minor tweaks:

These are just a few of your options. Not shown here are seemly endless looks one could create by adding tights, boots, heels, and/or different accessories. Get creative and create a look completely your own.

I was about to write a long, drawn out introduction explaining why Marilyn Monroe is a fashion icon. Then, I came to my senses. Everyone knows Marilyn. Heck, every woman out there wants to emulate her sexual appeal. All that said, there is no more to be said.

Naomi and Ethan

One of our customers, Shannon, let us post these pictures of her adorable children, Naomi and Ethan. Shannon purchased the Fisher Price record player and xylophone from HDV. As you can see in the pictures below the kids love their new toys.

Above Picture: Ethan bobs his head to the bumpin' beats of his FP record player.
Naomi's pose suggests she just finished bustin' out an old school break dancin' back spin. Naomi has a look on her face like she's thinking "Yeah, beat that." You go girlfriend!

Above Picture: Ethan ready to create a master mix. His wheels seem to be spinning as though he's coming up with the next big hit.

Thank you, Shannon for sharing these great pictures of your oh-so-stinkin'-cute kids.

**If you have pictures of an item you purchased with HDV... please send it to us along with your story. With your permission we will post the story on our blog.

Fashion Friday with Etsy, Girls Night Out

Sitting down to compose this weeks "Fashion Friday" I had no idea who I wanted to feature as our Fashion Icon. I frantically searched my archive of vintage pictures when an email came in from my good friend, Erin. Erin is planning a girls night out. I am beyond excited to spend time with my dearest and funniest friends. These girls never hold back... nothing is taboo when we're together. I love that about them!
This picture came up right after reading Erin's email. I found it fitting.
Let's get started.... as usual we recreate a picture shopping only on Etsy.

HSN takes on Etsy!

Hello my fellow Etsy fans. Turns out we are not the only ones who adore Etsy (as if you didn't already know that). Others see the potential in the many shops and shop owners who make up the wonderful work we call Etsy.....

The Home Shopping Network, in an effort to expand their viewer demographic, is in the process of developing a show called "The Etsy Hour." The show will showcase different Etsy shops and merchandise. HSN is confident the Etsy show will discover the next "it" item. HSN also hopes "The Etsy Hour" will result in the discovery of the next big designer, artist, or whatever the case may be. The union of Etsy and HSN is a win/win for all involved.

There is also rumor of HSN developing a reality show around different Etsy shops. Stay tuned for more information on this rumor.

My sources tell me there is also talk of an Etsy reality show. The show will feature different Etsy Shops though the good, bad and ugly of trying to make it up the Etsy food chain.

Now for the bad news....I am sorry to say but non of the above is true. It's just an idea, and a mighty good one I might add, that has been floating in my head for some time now. I want to make this happen. I can't do it alone and I'm asking for your help. Consider this a grass roots movement to bring Etsy and HSN together.

First steps to making this plan a reality:

ETSY SELLERS:
Leave a comment to this blog giving me your opinion behind the "marriage" of Etsy and HSN. Do you currently watch HSN? Would you watch HSN if it featured Etsy? Do you currently buy from HSN? Would you buy from HSN if Etsy was featured? Would you want to sell your merchandise on Etsy?

ETSY CUSTOMERS:
Leave a comment to this blog giving me your opinion behind the "marriage" of Etsy and HSN. Do you currently watch HSN? Would you watch HSN if it featured Etsy? Do you currently buy from HSN? Would you buy from HSN if Etsy was featured?

HSN VIEWERS AND BUYERS:
Do you shop on Etsy? Would you buy items from Etsy if it was featured on HSN? Give me your thoughts and ideas behind the "marriage" of Etsy and HSN.

Thank you for reading my blog and as always,
Have a Happy Day!
