Selma and Stan go to Princeton AND Blue Bottle Red Rocket

This week Happy Day Vintage had the honor of being featured on two separate Etsy treasuries. The first is "Selma and Stan go to Princeton" As one person commented:
"This tells a great story! Stan, wearing his handsome bowtie and dapper shoes is off to Princeton in his Volvo. Selma is by his side wearing her pearls and gripping her traincase. A nip of whiskey tucked away. Time is awasting. Stan has a fellowship and Stella is going to write. Isn't spring grand!" Check out the Happy Day Vintage typewriter (third item, first row) and the entire story line for yourself:

The second treasury Happy Day Vintage had a role in is called "Blue Bottle Red Rocket". The red traincase (third item, first row) is one of my favorite items in the HDV shop. Unlike the treasury showcased above, this treasury doesn't tell a story but it is very pleasing to the eye. Please feast your eyes on this:

Typewriters

Those of you who know me know I am suddenly infatuated with vintage typewriters. Many have asked what exactly one would do with the typewriters. Well, here are just a couple cool ideas I've come across in the last day:
1) Use it for a wedding as a guest sign in book. It creates a unique and vintage touch that is sure to be talked about. (taken from the blog http://vintageglamblog.com/page/7/)
2) Okay, come on...it just looks cool. It's like a piece of artwork:
This one was taken from Boden Magazine:

These are just a couple pictures I love. Hope you enjoy them too. Until next time.

300

No, I'm not talking about the Zack Snyder movie. I'm talking about hearts, yes hearts. When searching etsy one has the opportunity to "heart" their favorite shop or item. In other words one has can bookmark or save their favorite shop/item for future reference. This week Happy Day Vintage reached over 300 hearts. Thank you to everyone who has hearted our shop.

Featured on "A Yen For Spring Travel" Treasury

Happy Day Vintage has been featured on a great new etsy treasury. As the title, "A Yen For Spring Travel", suggests the treasury features spring like items found on etsy. The Sage Green Jewelry Box (lower right hand corner) is from Happy Day Vintage. My good friend, Stacey, is the one who found, and listed, the jewelry box. Thanks Stacey, nice work!
Thank you to FoundOnTheBeach for including my shop on your fab treasury. Check out her shop at

A family Affair!

My sister, Leah, recently found a few treasures for Happy Day Vintage. I love that my loved ones are getting into "treasure hunting" as much as I do. I was able to take some pictures of just a few of the items. There's more which I'll list later. Let's get started:
First up is a fab retro cheese and cracker tray. It's bright and colorful. I imagine this would be the perfect host/hostess gift. The tray reminds me there are brighter and warmer days in our near future - I can't wait for spring!
Another great host or hostess gift would be this adorable metal daisy recipe card box. Again, this items reminds me of spring. Fill the adorable little box with a few of your favorite recipes and give it as a gift. Or, put it in your office to hold odds and ends. What ever your intentions this little metal box will make you smile every time you use it.Last for this post is a metal J.C.Higgens metal jug with spout. It's made by Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Nice job Leah - you found some great treasures. I can't wait to take pictures of the rest of your fab finds.

What happened?

When I went to bed two nights ago this train case had around 200 hits (on the happydayvintage.etsy.com shop). The next day I checked the listing to find the traincase had received over 900 hits. What happened? Why so many all of the sudden? What ever the reason I'm grateful for it! I'm guessing it was featured on some sort of etsy mailer/marketing tool.?. Again, I'm not complaining - just curious as to what happened. How do I make it happen again?

Can't let go

I love everything I buy and have a hard time letting go of every vintage item. That being said, sometimes I cannot let go no matter how hard I try. That is exactly what happened with the lamp shown on the right. I purchased it at a GoodWill in Minneapolis. I love it's crisp white color and retro lines. I will be covering the lamp shade with a funky retro material. The lamp fit perfectly in our office and that's where it lives right now. I adore it and will never sell it. Gotta love vintage, especially when I get it at a good price. Cheap is Chic!

Bring It!

Well, here we go.....
For starters: My name is Dana Douglas and I own Happy Day Vintage. In short, it's a shop that sells vintage housewares and luggage on etsy. It's fabulous, you really should check it out.
happydayvintage.etsy.com
This is just what I need and just what you need....one more thing for me to do and one more blog for you to read. I have a hard enough time keeping up the way it is and now I'm taking on a blog for Happy Day Vintage. However, truth be told, I love it! Besides my family and friends, Happy Day Vintage is the love of my life. I'm obsessed with vintage and retro anything. I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I enjoy creating it. So bring it!, I'm ready!, I can take on the world! (or at least another blog).
Let's start off with my latest love...the new typewriter I found during a recent family antique shopping trip in rural south eastern Minnesota. The aqua blue color makes me smile every time I look at it. I love it so much I took a picture of myself with the typewriter (I know, I'm a total dork but I'm okay with that). The typewriter is listed on etsy so check it out at happydayvintage.etsy.com as well.
