Before and After for March 15th Listings

Last week I traveled the south metro in search of more vintage jewelry boxes.  In the end I came home with eight jewelry boxes (some not pictured below).  I immediately began the long process of updating each and every one. Last Thursday, the 15th of March, I listed a few of the finished materpieces on Happy Day Vintage.  It's always fun to see the before and after so here's a couple pics to give you a taste of the transformation:

Happy Birthday, Sydney!

This adorable girl is Sydney. For Syd's 8th Birthday she was given one of my refurbished jewelry boxes. Sydney loves her jewelry box and, according to her mom, couldn't wait to get home and organize it.

3 down and 3 to go

Tuesday night I listed six new jewelry boxes. Thus far three have sold but there are still three remaining. In the mean time I am busy creating new jewelry boxes to be listed this Wednesday, February 15th.

Here's what has sold thus far:

 

The above is one of my favorites.  A mom bought this jewelry box for her 8 year old daughter.

 This blue and white polka dot jewelry box found a home in Wyoming.

 

Finally the bright number above sold and will be given as a birthday gift for a 9 year old girl. 

As mentioned there are still three jewelry boxes available from this week (see pic below) and more to be listed on Wednesday, February 15th.

The Sophia

My daughter is six years old and fortunate enough to have many amazing little girlfriends. There have been a lot of birthday parties in the past couple months. Lucky for me these girls love getting custom jewelry boxes and have even come to expect it from my daughter. 

This particular jewelry box was for a very special little girl named Sophia. Sophia has an extremely kind and loving heart. Sophia is a fashionista, a decorator and a hostess extraordinaire. Because of her amazing sense of style, I knew Sophia would appreciate the opportunity to help design her jewelery box. 

I provided Sophia with a array of paper samples. She narrowed the pile down to her 5 favorites....from there I went ahead and created "The Sophia".

Below is a picture of Sophia opening her gift while the rest of the girls gather around. I was told she loved her gift. Words cannot express how happy this makes me.

Custom Jewelry Box - before and after

This custom jewelry box was done for my very good friend, Kari.  Kari had purchased the jewelry box years ago.  She loved the functionality of the jewelry box but knew it was in desperate need of an update.  Together Kari and I decided on a color scheme and paper design that appealed to her.

All My Little Ladies!

As of late, the little ladies of the world have been my best customers. Girls from the ages of newborn (a great gift idea for a baby shower) to teens have been wanting, getting and coveting the HDV refurbished jewelery boxes. 

Many girls use the their boxes to store jewelry while others (such as my daughter) use the jewelry box to store every tiny little treasure she can shove in it.  Still others use their jewelry box to organize American Girl doll accessories. 

Here are a few (and by "a few" I mean a ton)  examples of the recent jewelry boxes I've created for our younger generation....

Spring Inspired Creations

The holidays have been crazy busy, and I've loved every minute of it.  Over the holidays I had the opportunity to create custom jewelry boxes of all kinds... for wives, babies first Christmas, kids, tweens, teens, and sisters. It's been an amazing season. 

Now that the holiday of custom jewelry boxes is over I have had a chance to create some of my own designs. Here's a taste of what's going on in my workshop....

A Sweet Birthday Gift for a Sweet Girl

This past weekend my daughters friend, Megan, celebrated her 9th birthday. Megan is a sweet girl who spends a lot of time playing at our house. Carly (my daughter) and Megan often wander into my work room eager to help create jewelry boxes. Megan has even picked out her favorite papers and asked me, on numerous occasions, if I would one day make her a jewelry box. 

When my daughter was invited to Megan's birthday the obvious gift was a custom jewelry box. I incorporated her favorite papers and colors. The result was a jewelry box fit for a princess.

Life Size Dress Form - Meet Robin

Happy Day Vintage has started our own line of vintage inspired dressforms. Keep checking the Happy Day Vintage blog to read more stories on the dressforms created and the story behind them.

Today, I would like to introduce "Robin"

Robin is a perfectly imperfect handmade dressform waiting to model your clothes, jewelry or just add an artistic touch to any room. Robin is covered in nearly 500 hand cut leaves which were strategically placed, one by one, in order to create a unique design. Robin also has 11 birds adorning her body. Two of the birds are easy to see but nine of the birds are hidden. Can you find them?

I name all of my dressforms. Each has a unique personality and name which comes to me as I create her. As I mold, past, design, glue, plaster, etc... a story comes to mind of the "woman" I am creating. It may sound crazy but it's my way of connecting and escaping in my art just as one would do while reading a good book.

While creating Robin the song "I'm like a bird" by Nelly Furtado kept popping into my head. That's where the name Robin, a bird common to MN, came to mind. I wanted to create a free spirit, young, slightly bohemian personality. I feel I accomplished this with Robin.

Each of my dressforms have a heart inside. I realize this too may be silly since the dressforms are closed at both ends and no one will see the inside but placing a heart inside makes me feel good about the product I'm creating. It's all about the details. Since Robin is a child like free spirit I had my daughter create the heart for her...
